  • It seems that I don’t play normal games anymore, instead just playing a few Apoc games per year.  This past weekend was no exception.  Our local gaming club had one of it’s three annual Apoc games, and I managed to attend.  The rules were pretty typical, except for the usual limitation of superheavies/titans was lifted, and replaced with “no more than 1 D weapon per model.”  Complete rules can be found in this thread. Many of the standard players were in attendance, with a couple of relatively new faces.  Attendees and army choices can be found below in the recaps...

  • It just occurred to me that there are two codicies in the current edition of 40k that I’m actually happy with. Oddly enough, they’re the two armies I play most often. Now, you might think that it’s no coincidence that I like the book for the two armies I play; in fact, you might assume that I play them because I like the books. Not so.     The game was a little more haphazardly thrown together than previous events in the Vacillite Campaign; which is not to say it was equivalent to a pick-up Apoc game.  True to form, it had some new twists we hadn’t experienced before, and some of the classic elements that have come to be staples in our in-house format.   • The amount of effort put into preparation for things certainly has a direct correlation to the quality of the end result.  I’m sad to say that our last Apocalypse game (the second of the Vacillite campagin, for those taking notes) didn’t get as much preparation as it really should have.  Luckily for me though, preparation isn’t the only requirement; sometimes just surrounding yourself with a great bunch of guys can elevate something from mediocre status to a great game, just the same.   • One of my New Year’s resolutions from last year was to paint and base my entire Tyranid army.  Did that happen?  Well, as of when I’d written this post originally, it was still a work in progress (yes, I this delightful post was written almost three months ago).  I was getting really close though… So, back to the original post: With the vision of a completely painted army on the horizon, I’m a little giddy.  So much so, in fact, that I’ve found myself buying some extra models here and there to ensure that I only have to dip models one...

  • Last month, I put together a list of manufacturers who supply alternative models for boneswords (along with some other conversions for the same). Today, I figured I’d go a little into depth on the option I went with for my Lashwhips (or is it lash whips?).   Like my boneswords, I also got the whips from Paulson Games. Now, they don’t call them by that name, instead refering to them as “Alien Tendril Whips,” (to avoid any copyright infringement, I’m sure), but it’s painfully clear what they’re intended for.   • Since I have a massive amount of models awaiting staining, I figure I might as well paint up any other models that need it, so I only have to get my hands dirty once.  With five completed mycetic spores, and a box full of components to make some more, why not round it out to an even number? Well, that was the original intent.  I didn’t go back and reference how many I had originally done, so I made three more pods, figuring I’d round it out to an even eight mycetic spores.  Sure, that’s more than I’d likely ever use...

  • With this squad, I’ve officially painted my last legal model for my Tyranid army.   I say “legal” because I do need to paint the 2nd Hierophant, but otherwise, this army is done.  Well, I did dig through my closet and found enough parts to make a few extra mycetic spores, so I’ll do that before I start the massive process of staining and basing the army. But, from where I stand now, it’s entirely plausible that I’ll actually complete this New Year’s Resolution, and have the entire army painted and based by the end of December.  Just what does one...

  • Whatever happened to the Pink Tyranid blog?  It used to be available at http://pink-tyranids.blogspot.com, but now it seems to be curiously absent.  It’s kind of sad, because he was seen by many as some sort of authority on Tyranids. In loving memory of that blog, I present to you, some of my final ‘Nids for painting, in all they’re pink glory.  With these last models down, I have only one more squad of hormagaunts left to paint before I can consider the army completely painted.  Oh, and that pesky Hierophant.
