  •   Just over one month from the first post (closer to two months since the inception of the project), my Imperial Guard contingent has been completed*. You didn’t happen to notice the asterisk on that sentence, did you?  No?  Well, good… Yes, there is a big asterisk on the end, indicating that my sentence requires conditions to be true.  Those conditions are: “Finished” doesn’t include basing the models. It also doesn’t include weapon options or magnetization, as I still haven’t given any thought to how these guys will be arranged in squads and/or what they’ll actually be used for in...

The Military of Ultramar – Finished!

  • A month ago today, I posted my first WIP status update on my Imperial Guard (lovingly entitled the Ultramar PDF–or planetary defense force).  It really seems like I’ve been at it much longer than that, but keeping track of progress is a big reason why I started this blog in the first place.  Despite the overwhelming number of models (105 for those who are keeping score), it didn’t seem like a chore because of the way I wind up painting.  Yes, I painted them as one giant assembly line, but when I got bored of painting, I simply set the...

  • I’ve been working on my Imperial Guard for the past month (ok, maybe a bit longer).  To keep me focused, I’ve been posting status updates as time goes on, which keeps me honest and (hopefully) motivated.  This week’s update is as follows: Since the last last update, I think I’ve made some pretty significant progress.  At that point, their khakis were finished, their bandoliers had one coat of brown, and their guns had three coats of red.  My intention was to move forward and to through a few coats of BLOO on them (read: blue for anyone who isn’t as...

  • So, I’ve been working on some Imperial Guard to go with my Ultramarines, and decided to paint them in a similar scheme and dub them the Ultramar Planetary Defense Force (PDF).  Earlier, I’d managed to get them assembled and slap enough bone colored paint on them to pass any GW painting standard (three color minimum!).  I’d also claimed that I was going to move on to painting their armor next, which turned out to be a lie. Well, not entirely.  If you look at the left side of the picture, you can see that I did actually start painting their...

  • A year ago I’d posted an entry on the Imperial Guard “weapon teams” that I’d painted up.  Of course, I use the term very loosely, as really I was just painting the weapons and the bases for those teams, and I’d even alluded to the fact that I wouldn’t be painting the guardsman until sometime in 2012. Well, 2012 hasn’t yet arrived, so I guess I’m actually working on these guys ahead of schedule!  The off-handed prediction that I’d be painting them by 2012 was really optimistic—given my propensity for procrastination, but recently I found myself cleaning up some Imperial bits...

  • Hello again, its been a while so I thought I should get a post up. Not much actually done on the Keepers of the Flame right now as I have been working a lot recently. However, I little while ago on my own blog, I started an Adeptus Custodes project. This post was actually posted on my blog a few days ago, but I think it’s worth spreading around a bit, after all it’s not often you seen such stunning models! However, before I reveal my work I’d like to make a quick explanation on who the Adeptus Custodes are/were/could be. I know many of you will...

  • One of my New Year’s resolutions from last year was to paint and base my entire Tyranid army.  Did that happen?  Well, as of when I’d written this post originally, it was still a work in progress (yes, I this delightful post was written almost three months ago).  I was getting really close though… So, back to the original post: With the vision of a completely painted army on the horizon, I’m a little giddy.  So much so, in fact, that I’ve found myself buying some extra models here and there to ensure that I only have to dip models one...

  • To grunge or not to grunge? For me the answer is simple, throw as much dirt and blood on it as possible and then throw some hammers at it to give it that ‘worn in’ look. Why go grunge though, or more to the point why go clean and polished. There are usually two camps when it comes to this subject, the “grunge adds realism, real soldiers and gear get dirty” group and the “these are the finest warriors in his all high toilet hogs arsenal, they should look pristine” While both camps have merit, neither of them take into...

  • Greetings and welcome to a new guest blog here at warhammer39999. I’ll be posting here every fortnight (hopefully moving up to weekly as time goes by but we shall see how this flies first) with updates on my new project, The Keepers of the Flame.      The projects is actually not new at all and is about 6 years old, but hasn’t been touched in years and so I have decided to completely restart it from scratch. The Keepers of the Flame (KotF) are a self-designed space marine chapter of the 6thfounding. They are descendants of the Imperial Fist gene seed and...
