  • A simply step by step on how to magnetize Marines. Start off by assembling chest, head and legs together. Once I have the bodies ready I gather up the initial arms I want for them. Double check to make sure you have all of the supplies needed. I keep a good amount of 1/8″ sized magnets handy, some super glue, an exacto knife, and some extra plastic piece. I keep my polarity straight by either keeping an extra larger magnet or already finished arm attached to one side. For my glue I prefer a gel kind, as it won’t run...

  • (Guest Post from Cole, of 08ak1′s blog): It’s no secret around here that I am a big fan of the Grey Knights. After being out of the hobby for nearly 5 years I came back in 2008 with only my Grey Knight army and some random space marine junk I had accumulated from friends over our original many years of playing.  After playing with them for about 6 months, I decided to add some inducted guardsmen and that snowballed into a full on IG army.  Ever since my poor Knights have been neglected, regulated to a shelf in the garage where they collect dust...

  • To grunge or not to grunge? For me the answer is simple, throw as much dirt and blood on it as possible and then throw some hammers at it to give it that ‘worn in’ look. Why go grunge though, or more to the point why go clean and polished. There are usually two camps when it comes to this subject, the “grunge adds realism, real soldiers and gear get dirty” group and the “these are the finest warriors in his all high toilet hogs arsenal, they should look pristine” While both camps have merit, neither of them take into...

  • Last month, I put together a list of manufacturers who supply alternative models for boneswords (along with some other conversions for the same). Today, I figured I’d go a little into depth on the option I went with for my Lashwhips (or is it lash whips?).   Like my boneswords, I also got the whips from Paulson Games. Now, they don’t call them by that name, instead refering to them as “Alien Tendril Whips,” (to avoid any copyright infringement, I’m sure), but it’s painfully clear what they’re intended for. Before going with them, I’d researched other options, including those by Chapterhouse...

  • Since I have a massive amount of models awaiting staining, I figure I might as well paint up any other models that need it, so I only have to get my hands dirty once.  With five completed mycetic spores, and a box full of components to make some more, why not round it out to an even number? Well, that was the original intent.  I didn’t go back and reference how many I had originally done, so I made three more pods, figuring I’d round it out to an even eight mycetic spores.  Sure, that’s more than I’d likely ever use...

  • Last month, Ron over at From the Warp, came up with a brilliant idea on how to make a Dark Eldar webway portal.  Wow, was that really a month ago?  Anyway, I believe he was inspired by Mr. Esty over at Enter the Nurgling.  (On another side note, I’m certain that his name is supposed to be some sort of pun, but I can’t for the life of me figure out just what it means).  Back to the wiffle ball. So, Ron comes up with this fantabulous idea as to how to make a suitable Dark Eldar webway portal.  Now,...

  • Whichever I decide to feel these models as, I’ve finished painting them.  Yes, they still need to be based, and they also need to be dipped, but I don’t include either of those steps in considering a model to be “painted.” These guys are Teraphs from the Legion of Everblight range of models for the game Hordes.  When I first purchased them, I really thought they’d be taller, but I’m pleased with the size of them.  As they are, they stand roughly equivalent in size as a Tyrant Guard model.  Originally I just was going to paint them up in...

  • Last month I posted about some alternate models for Tyranids and promised to follow up with the other two units I purchased: the Angelius & the Carnivean.  The Angelius Like the earlier models, these are all models from the Legion of Everblight range for the game Hordes by Privateer Press.  The Raek was my original inspiration for purchase (as he reminded me of the classic “Red Terror” model), and when he came in the mail, I figured it was worth trying to pick up some other models.  That’s where these guys come in. First I want to post the success.  The...

  • Almost a year ago, I stumbled upon some nifty models from Rackham that bore a striking resemblance to the seemingly extinct 40 race of monkeys: the Jokaero (you can read that post here).  Long story short, I eventually went and bought some of the models, but never did anything with them. Last week, Sons of Taurus stumbled uon that post, and reminded me of momentary lapse of monkeys.  So, I figured I’d dust them off and put up my initial thoughts on the models.  Before I do, below is a list of models I bought and what I originally thought...
