  • It seems that I don’t play normal games anymore, instead just playing a few Apoc games per year.  This past weekend was no exception.  Our local gaming club had one of it’s three annual Apoc games, and I managed to attend.  The rules were pretty typical, except for the usual limitation of superheavies/titans was lifted, and replaced with “no more than 1 D weapon per model.”  Complete rules can be found in this thread. Many of the standard players were in attendance, with a couple of relatively new faces.  Attendees and army choices can be found below in the recaps...

  • The game was a little more haphazardly thrown together than previous events in the Vacillite Campaign; which is not to say it was equivalent to a pick-up Apoc game.  True to form, it had some new twists we hadn’t experienced before, and some of the classic elements that have come to be staples in our in-house format. The new additions to the format this time were the inclusion of a chess clock for timed turns (more about that in a future post), and the inclusion of an off-site space-hulk themed board called “The Okassisarian Cruiser.”  Essentially this was supposed to...

  • Recently, I played a 2v2 battle of Space Marines & Blood Angels against Ultramarines & Orks.  Actually, it wasn’t that recent: this game transpired way back in October (man, I need to get out more).  Anywho, with three marine players, it would’ve seemed more appropriate to play 3 vs 1, but no matter how much I suggested it, our resident Ork player wouldn’t agree to 6000 points vs. 2000 points. So, we diced off to see who would side with the Xenos, and I lost… er… I mean won.  In the spirit of the Ultramarines, did reserve the right to shoot at...

  • Two Fridays ago, I was in DC for work, and managed to sneak in a game with fellow blogger Drathmere, from 40k Hobby Blog.  Astute followers of my blog will remember that this summer we were supposed to play a game, but for various reasons, things fell through.  This time though, our paths crossed and we managed to put his recently purchased battle board to good use. Anyway, after we got past all of the formalities, and my oggling his multiple painted armies, we broke down and played a game.  After all, that is what we had set out to...

  • Hard to believe that after a year of playing with a local gaming group of no more than 15-20 people in it, there are still some people that I haven’t played against.  This week, I managed to wrangle down the king-pin himself, Andrew, in a 1750 point match between my Ultramarines and his Daemonhunters. As a preface, Andrew is the man behind the curtain for our local gaming scene, responsible for providing us a regular place to play, as well as the man who organizes most (if not all) of the tournaments in Anchorage.  He makes all the terrain for...

  • This week I threw down against Kevin and his bugs again at a random-ish points cost.  He tried to get me to play at 1500 points, but I just wasn’t in the mood… so we finally agreed on 1443.  My focus when building my list was to take units that I don’t use very often.  In fact, my list originally included Cassius (since I’ve never played him before), but I took him out when I realized I didn’t bring the model.  Instead, I just went through the HQ section until I found one that I had the model for, and that I...

  • In preparation for the impending local 500 point tournament, I’m toying around with various lists.  The sleeper list that I was hoping to run consisted almost entirely of landspeeder storms.  This week, my game featured that list up against a hodge-podge of Space Wolves. Space Wolves Force: Troops: Grey Hunters x5 w/ flamer Grey Hunters x5 w/ flamer Elites: Lone Wolves x3 Fast Attack: Thunderwolf Calvary w/ frostblade Landspeeder w/ Typhoon launchers & H. Flamer Heavy Support: Longfangs x5 w/ 4x Missile Launchers Cole’s list brought a smattering of everything to the battle.  The idea of including lone wolves without...

  • Since our gaming group meets in an elementary school, we necessarily take summers off.  Well, a few weeks ago school opened up, and shortly therafter, the gaming commenced.  On the same token, our local gaming club announced an upcoming 500 point tournament in October based upon what I believe to be some rules laid out in Adepticon.  With that in mind, there were a few people shaping up armies for the tourney, so I brought a 500 point force ready to play for that. The turn-out for week 1 of the season wasn’t bad.  At first I was leery that...

  • We haven’t gotten many games of 40k in this summer, so when Blaine asked if I was game, I jumped at the chance to exterminate some bugs.  Though I had really wanted to bust out my Doom of Malan’tai against low-leadership bugs, I opted to go with the power of the BLOO, since I know Blaine isn’t overly fond of bug on bug battles, so I drove over to his house and threw down with 1500 points of the Emporer’s finest. Ok, I’m not 100% sure of the points value of this particular game, but it was in the 1500...
